Now that winter is approaching many mountain regions on the northern hemisphere receive their first snow. We had a little in the Black Forest already a few weeks back but it did not prevail – today for example we had sunny weather with more than 10 degrees in the mountains. Here a few impressions from elsewhere of the first snow of this year as observed by the Landsat satellite:
The Alborz Mountains show a bit of snow already on this image from mid October – there are even a few smaller glaciers there.
Mount Fuji in Japan has a white top on this image from late October.
A few days later Mount Olympus in Greece already bears quite extensive snow cover.
In early November this image shows the southern part of the North American Sierra Nevada with a bit of snow.
And finally from a few days ago this image from the European Sierra Nevada in southern Spain.
Locations of all of these views can be found in the following map.
